Scriptures shared during this video: Matthew 5:6, Hebrews 12:10
What if we misunderstood the breadth of God’s discipline? I always believed that His discipline was always in response to a specific act, meaning that if I was being disciplined if must have a direct nexus to a specific sin. What if we take the scripture simply at face value:
9Furthermore, we have all had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Should we not much more submit to the Father of our spirits and live? 10 Our fathers disciplined us for a short time as they thought best, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His holiness. 11No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields a harvest of righteousness and peace to those who have been trained by it
Hebrews 12:9-11 – Berean Study Bible
God uses discipline only for our good but this is a new revelation for me, may it be a blessing to you dear one. Our God is infinitely creative and will go to great lengths to prepare his children for the life to come. In other words, he is not bound by the scope of his chastening, it may be connected to something else entirely. Our God is a jealous God and is a consuming fire in his love for us!
I also believed that if God “took me all the way to the bottom” that there would be nothing there. After all, I’d spent many years of repentance. I was wrong and pride was a great block, not only to my heart, but I believe to many in our congregation. (Frankly, I’m utterly shocked, broken-hearted, yet deeply encouraged by this revelation.)
Here’s the song from Pastor Jimmy Swaggart that I referenced at the end of the video.
